ancestry blather
Jan. 30th, 2006 12:56 pmi am searching for records to figure out some of the ancestry stuff in my family, instead of working. i got back to the mid 1800's on my dad's mother's side. mostly centered around alabama, arkansas, oklahoma and texas.
now i'm looking at my mom's mom's family. the thing that gets me is some of the NAMES of these people. like i think they seriously made some of them up. some of the better ones i know/found today:
my grandma- dealie mae diamond aiello (who is still alive)-
had an older sister who died as a baby- 'deasie fay' diamond. jeez.
and she had a brother ealie erastus diamond jr. jeeeez.
so that's deasie, dealie and ealie. and my great grandfather was ealie sr.
my grandma also has a half sister named MARBLE. and then there's a wesley alexander who was referred to as "dubya-a".
then on my dad's side, his grandma was ida pearl basham. and she had some brother named dovie and a sister named armetta.
i also found a 'narcissus routon' on that side. which is pretty rad. all the last names i am finding are pretty anglo and boring (except blackburn, which i like): stacks, stevens, basham.
wtf.
my grandma, myrtle roseanna blackburn went by roseanna, but she told me that she and her sisters and one brother were always named according to the priest/nurses who were around during the birth. or something to that affect. so she had a sister named johnnie.
she also had twin sisters, eloise and louise...i think they are still alive. my grandma roseanna once told me if she ever had twins she'd name them "octana odette" and "octavia linette" or something like that.
now i'm gonna go to town on my dad's father's family. but his name is robert wright, which is really fucking common, and he's from texas (i think) so it will probably be a bit difficult.
i can't even get past the early 1900's with the italians. damnit.
