my goal (on goodreads) is to read 31 books this year. i've already read 16. ive been doing the goal thing since 2008, and last year was the first year i didn't reach my goal, so i am really trying this year. and my really trying, i mean reading easy to read and short books. no war and peace for me! ok actually, it wasn't intentional, i just got sucked into a cheesy series that are quick reads, but i'm off the series for awhile. i just finished the lover (ok, this was really short) and now i'm reading the stain by rikki ducornet. i'm only 2 chapters in, but it's really intriguingly surreal so far.

is anyone else reading anything good? i want to form a book group, but they don't really seem to last.

I am reading "The Jamaica Inn" by Daphne Du Mauirier, the same author that wrote "Rebecca" which I heard is also very good. "Rebbecca" was made into a movie and it's a great classic movie to see as well (it's on YouTube in pieces.)

Anyway, The Jamaica Inn is considered a gothic romance and so far, I like it. Sort of Jane Eyer-ish if you are into that sort of thing.

I really love the ethical vampire book series by Susan Hubbard, which I think you recommended to me.

ooh i've heard of "jamaica inn" but never read it. i'll have to add it to the list. i LOVED "rebecca", you should definitely read it. i want to see the movie too. i just read that the ending is different, but i guess that commonly happens when books are made into movies.

i hadn't heard of the ethical vampire series, so it wasn't me, but they do sound interesting...i may try them out.

Interesting! Do you follow this blog? https://hauntedhearts.wordpress.com/

That's where I got the idea to read Jamaica Inn. Plus, I ordered some other books she reviewed on there. One I did not like much, but JI is good.

i like 'taking care.' it is a book of short stories. some of the stories i can't bear to read; she writes at a very fine line between comedy and something like tragedy
